VIENNA CLARINET CONNECTION

vienna clarinet connection was founded by Helmut Hödl in 1995. From the beginning it has been the aim of the ensemble to make clarinet chamber music more popular and more widely known. The four musicians‘ versatility and the special examination of the technical and musical possibilities of the deep instruments of the clarinet family - basset horn and bass clarinet - have been especially important in this endeavour.

The musicians of the vienna clarinet connection worked on a repertoire in their early years which fi lled both the public and the critics with enthusiasm for this line-up. During that time the fi rst important festival organizers like the Rheingau Festival, Carinthian Summer, Jeunesse Musicale and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival took notice of the ensemble.

Having established itself in concert life the ensemble changed their repertoire from arrangements and adaptations to original compositions. This process started in 2000. The highly successful CD „OUT OF“ and the accompanying program concept marked the beginning of this development. vienna clarinet connection have stayed faithful to this concept ever since. Since 1995 the ensemble has performed in about 400 concerts in almost every European country and produced 6 CD recordings.

Highlights of recent years have been the performances of Helmut Hödl‘s composition „Concerto Crosso“, written for vienna clarinet conncetion and orchestra. This composition was performed in the Bregenz Festival Theatre with the Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra and in the Vienna Musikverein with the Stuttgart Philharmonic.
